White papers

Deep technical insights and industry knowledge distilled into essential reading for engineers and designers

Technical guides from a working prototype workshop

Our white papers are written by the team at Complete Fabrication, who have been making prototypes in Whittlesford, near Cambridge, since 1986. They are free to download, and written for engineers, product designers and medical device teams who want their parts right first time.

The Biocompatible Resins and Medical Polymers paper covers ISO 10993, material choices across SLA, Carbon DLS, FDM and vacuum casting, and which materials suit which sterilisation methods. The Prototyping Checklist covers file preparation, fit and paint allowances, build orientation, and the extra checks for medical prototypes.

For shorter answers, see our prototyping FAQs, the design for manufacture guide and our materials and data sheets. Developing a medical product? Read about medical device prototyping.
